Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our coffee, shipping, and process.
Freshness & Peak Bloom
What does "shipped to bloom" actually mean?
We roast in small batches and ship while the coffee is still actively releasing CO₂. That CO₂ is what creates the bloom, the dome of bubbles that rises when hot water hits fresh grounds. When you see a strong bloom, you are looking at real-time freshness.
The window varies by roast but generally lands 2 to 14 days post-roast. That is the sweet spot where aromatics are still intact and extraction is at its best.
How long will my coffee stay fresh after it arrives?
Coffee is at Peak Bloom for roughly 2 to 4 weeks after roasting. For whole bean, expect excellent results in that window and good results for another 2 to 4 weeks after that. Pre-ground coffee loses freshness faster; we recommend using it within 2 weeks of opening.
After opening, keep your bag airtight, at room temperature, away from direct light and heat. Do not refrigerate. Do not freeze unless you are vacuum-sealing for months-long storage.
Why don't your bags print a roast date?
We focus on something more practical than a printed date: making sure your bag arrives in the Peak Bloom window. Every shipment leaves our roaster in that window, and we ship quickly enough that the date on the bag becomes less important than how it behaves when you open it.
If you want to verify, try the bloom test. Fresh coffee will produce an aggressive dome of bubbles when hot water hits. Stale coffee will lie flat.
What if my coffee does not seem fresh when it arrives?
Write to hello@drinkgoodgrounds.co within 30 days and we will send a replacement or refund your purchase. No questions, no receipts. We are serious about Peak Bloom because it is the only thing that makes us different from a grocery store bag.
Ordering & Shipping
How long does shipping take?
Orders ship within 1 to 3 business days of placement. Standard shipping is 3 to 5 business days within the continental U.S. Most customers receive their coffee within a week of ordering.
We do not currently ship internationally. Alaska, Hawaii, and U.S. territories: please contact us for custom shipping rates.
Do you offer free shipping?
Yes. Orders over $40 ship free within the continental U.S. This is true for both one-time orders and subscription shipments.
Can I track my order?
You will receive a tracking number by email as soon as your order ships. If you have an account, you can also log in to see the status of all your orders in one place.
What is your return policy?
If your coffee arrives damaged, is stale, or you are simply not happy with it, write to us at hello@drinkgoodgrounds.co within 30 days for a replacement or full refund.
Because coffee is perishable, we do not accept returns of opened bags, but that does not matter for our policy. If you do not like it, we make it right regardless.
Do you offer gift orders?
Yes. You can send coffee as a one-time gift with a personalized message at checkout, or send a digital gift card for any amount. Gift cards are delivered by email and never expire.
Subscription & Billing
How does the subscription work?
Pick any coffee, choose a grind, and select a cadence of 1, 2, or 4 weeks. We ship a fresh bag at your chosen interval. You save 10 percent on every shipment, and shipping is free on any order over $40 (which every subscription order hits).
Every bag you receive was roasted in the days before it shipped. You are not getting pre-bagged inventory sitting on a shelf.
Can I pause, skip, or cancel anytime?
Yes, always. Log into your account to pause, skip a shipment, change your cadence, swap roasts, or cancel outright. No phone calls, no retention pitches, no fine print.
When will I be charged?
You are charged when each shipment is queued for roasting, typically 1 to 2 days before it ships. You will receive an email before each charge so you have time to swap, pause, or skip if you want.
Can I subscribe to more than one coffee at a time?
Yes. Many customers subscribe to two roasts on different cadences: a daily drinker on a 2-week schedule and an espresso blend on a 4-week schedule, for instance. Set them up separately, manage them from the same account.
Coffee & Brewing
Which coffee should I start with?
If you drink it black and want something balanced and approachable, start with Full Bloom (medium, Brazilian, smooth). If you want more body and depth, try Deep Soil (medium-dark, Balinese). If you drink it with milk or pull espresso, go with Dark Bloom.
Not sure? Build a flight of three and save 10 percent. That is how most customers find their preference.
What grind should I order?
Whole bean if you own a grinder. Every time. Ground coffee starts losing aromatics within minutes.
If you do not have a grinder, pick the grind that matches your method:
- Fine: Espresso, Moka Pot
- Drip: Drip machine, pour-over, Chemex
- Coarse: French press, cold brew
See our grind reference for more detail.
Are your flavored coffees made with real flavoring?
Yes. Our Vanilla Bloom and Hazelnut Bloom are made with natural flavoring over a medium-roast breakfast blend. No artificial sweeteners, no sugar, no candy-shop notes. The goal is to carry the flavor cleanly, not to mask the coffee underneath.
Ingredients: coffee, natural flavoring. That is it.
Is Still Bloom actually decaf?
Yes. Still Bloom is 99.9 percent caffeine-free using the Swiss Water Process. This removes caffeine with water and osmotic pressure, no chemical solvents. Because the flavor compounds stay intact, it tastes like real coffee. We roasted it dark so it works for espresso and milk drinks, not just evening sipping.
Can I use your coffee for espresso?
Absolutely. Dark Bloom and Still Bloom were designed for espresso (dark roast, full body, solid through milk). Deep Soil pulls beautifully as a single-origin espresso with chocolate and citrus notes. The other roasts can also work depending on your taste; our medium and medium-dark profiles extract well under pressure.
Order the Fine grind for espresso machines, or whole bean if you grind on-demand.
